Team Returns from Chapel Hill with Bid to Nationals, All-Region Awards

2.8.09 UGA earned its first Nationals bid of the season Saturday with a top eight performance at the Southeastern Regional in Chapel Hill, NC.

The program still is eligible to accept another Nationals bid, and UGA will send two teams to the Feb. 28-29 Birmingham, AL regional to compete to earn a second bid.

The UGA team receiving a bid to Nationals played Duke University, UNC - Chapel Hill, Bob Jones University, and the University of Tennessee - Knoxville, finishing with a record of 5-3. The team will go on to compete at the March 27-28 Opening Round Championship Series of Nationals in Greenville, SC.

Andrei Ionescu won an All-Region Attorney award at the regional tournament and Rebecca Corey received an All-Region Witness award.

UGA team members competing on the team receiving a bid to Nationals were: Andrei Ionescu (Captain, '09), Jesika Wehunt (Captain, '10), Morgan Branch ('10), Rebecca Corey ('09), Ansley Fox ('10), Cherish Pate ('09), Brianna Randall ('12), and Ethan Treacy ('12).

UGA team members also competing at the Southeastern Regional were: Bryan Fox (Captain, '09), Brandon Amey (Captain, '11), Curry Andrews ('11), Katie Clifford ('12), Erin Cummins ('11), and Alana Driscoll ('11), and Nicole Wilson ('12).
