UGA Finishes with Best Regionals Record Ever, Takes Two More Bids to Nationals

1427 & 1428: UGA's A Teams, 1427 and 1428, display their team and individual trophies after winning 4th and 8th place and two bids to Nationals at the Birmingham Regional. This year marks the first time the program has received four bids to Nationals, and Team 1427 achieved the best Regionals win-loss record in UGA Mock Trial history.

3.1.10 UGA's A Teams swept through the Birmingham Regional this weekend, collecting two more bids to Nationals and finishing with the best Regionals record in program history.

Team 1427 finished with a record of 7-1 and a point differential of +86, beating their opponents by an average of nearly 11 points per ballot on their way to a 4th place finish and a bid to Nationals. This was the best win-loss record and point differential for any Regionals team in program history, with the team's only loss coming in a lopsided +17, -4 split to 5th place Duke.

Team 1428 also received a Nationals bid, finishing in 8th place at 5-3. Two of the team's losses came to 3rd place Alabama-Birmingham, who only dropped one ballot the entire tournament.

The two bids earned this weekend give UGA a total of four bids to the Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) of Nationals. UGA is one of only seven programs in the nation to earn four bids to Nationals.

Teams 1427 and 1428 will represent UGA Mock Trial at the Greenville, SC ORCS at the end of March to attempt to earn bids to the National Championship Tournament.

Brian Mink ('11) and Jesika Wehunt ('10) won All-Region Attorney Awards, and Alex Galvan ('11) took home an All-Region Witness Award. Mink and Galvan each received a perfect score of 20 ranks.

UGA team members competing on the 8th place Birmingham Regionals team were: Jesika Wehunt (Captain, '10), Julia Barrett (Captain, '10), Morgan Branch ('10), Katie Clifford ('12), Lauren Lutton ('13), Clayton Sharp ('13), and Michelle Pope ('11).

1.15.12 UGA Takes 1st at Commodore Classic Invitational

 

UGA Places 3rd in Nation Out of 633 Teams!

4.18.11 UGA Mock Trial finished 3rd in the nation out of 633 teams that started the year, tying for the best record at this year's National Championship Tournament in Des Moines, IA. The Bulldogs barely missed out on the championship round in a tie-breaker with the eventual national champion, UCLA.

The victory puts UGA in the top 99.5 percent of Mock Trial teams nationally. 6,000 undergraduates participate in collegiate Mock Trial, representing 633 teams from 300 universities. UGA placed above every Ivy League school, and finished behind only UCLA and NYU, who both tied UGA's record of 6-2 during the tournament.

UGA finished tied for 1st with UCLA in their 24-team division. UCLA's opponents had half a win more than UGA's (17.5 to 17), breaking the tie between the two teams and sending UCLA to the finals. NYU was the champion of the other division, followed by the University of Chicago.

UGA won rounds against Tufts, Georgetown, and UC Santa Cruz. Their only loss was to Harvard, by -2, -4. UGA ended the weekend with the largest single ballot win (+28), the largest single round win (+35), and the largest margin of victory over all four rounds (+74) of any team in the 48-team tournament.
