2.7.10 It was a victorious and historic weekend for UGA Mock Trial.

In addition to racking up 4th place and 8th place trophies at the Chapel Hill Regional Tournament, the program's B Teams, 1429 and 1430, both earned bids to Nationals. This marks the first year in UGA Mock Trial history that both B teams have received bids to Nationals.

Team 1429 also brought home the program's first Spirit of AMTA Award, which goes to the team at the tournament which best exemplifies sportsmanship and professionalism.

UGA's A Teams will travel to Birmingham in three weeks to see if they can win two more Nationals bids for the program. If they can do it, it will be the first time in UGA Mock Trial history that all four Regionals teams receive bids to Nationals. That's an accomplishment that only four universities in the nation were able to claim last year.

The two teams earning bids had 9 and 10 members. Among those, only the captains had competed in undergraduate Mock Trial before this season, a testament to the amount of work the teams put into winning, as well as the extent of the training that new members received throughout the year.

Team 1430, which finished in 4th place with a record of 6-2, was the only team in the Chapel Hill tournament to take a ballot from 2nd place Washington & Lee, splitting +5, -5. The team also faced UNC - Chapel Hill, Elon University, and the University of Central Florida.

Team 1429 finished in 8th place with a 5-3 record, and faced Patrick Henry College, Elon University, the University of Central Florida, and the University of South Carolina.

Isha Ghodke ('12) and Virginia Newman ('10) won All-Region Attorney Awards, and Claire Whitehead ('13) took home an All-Region Witness Award.
