10.18.09 UGA opened its invitationals season with a 4th place finish at Elon University's Carolina Classic.
In the three years the Carolina Classic has been held, UGA is the only program which has received a team trophy every year.
Finishing with a 6-2 record, UGA was the only top-5 finisher to go head-to-head with two other top-5 teams, facing a former back-to-back national champion in the first round. UGA split ballots in both rounds against top-5 teams and took all four ballots against teams outside the top 5.
This year's Carolina Classic featured an impressive field of nationally-recognized teams and is widely considered to be among the best early-season competitions in the country.
Teams finishing above UGA at this year's tournament were Duke University, which took 1st place, and the University of Virginia, which took 2nd and 3rd place. Rounding out the top 5 was Patrick Henry College.
Brian Mink took home an Outstanding Attorney award and Alana Driscoll received an Outstanding Witness award.
