UGA is One of Three in Nation with Maximum Bids to Nationals

3.29.10 UGA Mock Trial was this year one of only three programs nationally to earn both four bids to the Opening Round Championship of Nationals and two bids to the National Championship — the maximum number of bids it was possible for UGA to receive to each tournament.

The other two programs earning this distinction were perennial powerhouses Miami University (OH) and University of California - Irvine, which have staffs of five and nine coaches, respectively.

UGA Mock Trial is the only student-coached program to achieve the maximum number of Nationals bids this year. The program does not make use of any attorneys, professors, or law students as coaches, and, instead, is coached entirely by undergraduate team members who serve as captains.

Of the nearly 250 Mock Trial programs in the nation, UGA was the only undergraduate-coached program to receive four bids to the opening round of Nationals, the only undergraduate-coached program to receive two bids to the National Championship, and the only undergraduate-coached program to achieve both this year.

This puts UGA ahead of other top undergraduate-coached programs such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Georgetown, and UNC - Chapel Hill, as well as programs with coaches such as Duke University, UCLA, and back-to-back national runner-up George Washington University.

UGA's teams 1427 and 1428 will compete for the program's first national title at the National Championship Tournament in Memphis, TN in April. The tournament will feature the top 48 out of the 600+ teams that began the season.
