UGA Goes to Washington, Faces Nation's Best

11.07.10 UGA traveled to Washington, DC this weekendto compete against the nation's top Mock Trial teams at the University of Virginia's Great American Mock Trial Invitational (GAMTI).
The team of nine was assembled from UGA's five unstacked invitationals teams, with members chosen based on exceptional performance last year.
The Bulldogs competed in four rounds over two days, defeating Cornell University on all three judges' ballots to make the program 6-1 against Ivy League opponents in the last two seasons. UGA also faced the University of Virginia, a two-time national champion, Miami University of Ohio, a one-time national champion, and Loyola-Chicago.
Michelle Pope ('11) won an Outstanding Witness award at the tournament.
GAMTI was held at the Moultrie Courthouse in Judiciary Square, and boasted a field of teams more exclusive than the National Championship Tournament. The tournament featured 24 top teams from across the country, and the eventual national champion has come from the GAMTI field for each of the last five years.
While in DC, the UGA team also visited a number of the nation's landmarks, including the Capitol and U.S. Supreme Court. Though the High Court wasn't in session, the team was excited to spot Justice Sonia Sotomayor in the foyer outside the Supreme Court chambers.
UGA Team Members competing on GAMTI Team 826 were: Brian Mink (Captain, '11), Alex Smith (Captain, '12), Ethan Treacy (Captain, '12), Alex Galvan ('11), Isha Ghodke ('12), Vera Maladtsova ('12), Michelle Pope ('11), Kyle Walker ('13), and Claire Whitehead ('13).
