UGA Wins 2 Bids to Nationals in Orlando

2.21.10 UGA took two bids to Nationals this weekend at the Orlando Regional, hosted by the University of Central Florida.

UGA's C Team 1136 took 3rd place at the tournament with a record of 7-1, with the team's only loss coming to 1st place Case Western in a split-ballot decision. UGA's B Team 1135 finished at 5-3 in 8th place, and also earned a bid to Nationals.

With the bids, UGA advances to the Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) of Nationals held at Furman University in March.The top 48 teams at ORC sites around the country will advance to the National Championship Tournament in Des Moines.

Curry Andrews ('11) won an All-Region Attorney award, and Corey Anderson ('14) won an All-Region Witness award.

Competing on C Team 1136, which finished in 3rd place, were: Curry Andrews (Captain, '11), Clayton Sharp (Captain, '13), Corey Anderson ('14), Jessie Andrews ('12), Meredith Borschow ('12),Thomas Buscemi ('13), Alli Herzog ('14), and Ria Mehta ('12).

Competing on B Team 1135, which finished in 8th place, were: Brandon Amey (Captain, '12), Jarred Klorfein ('11), Muneeb Ahmed ('12), Curry Andrews ('11), Katie Clifford ('12), Isha Ghodke ('13), Philip Oldham ('13), Serena Premjee ('12), and Claire Whitehead ('13).

1.15.12 UGA Takes 1st at Commodore Classic Invitational

 

UGA Places 3rd in Nation Out of 633 Teams!

4.18.11 UGA Mock Trial finished 3rd in the nation out of 633 teams that started the year, tying for the best record at this year's National Championship Tournament in Des Moines, IA. The Bulldogs barely missed out on the championship round in a tie-breaker with the eventual national champion, UCLA.

The victory puts UGA in the top 99.5 percent of Mock Trial teams nationally. 6,000 undergraduates participate in collegiate Mock Trial, representing 633 teams from 300 universities. UGA placed above every Ivy League school, and finished behind only UCLA and NYU, who both tied UGA's record of 6-2 during the tournament.

UGA finished tied for 1st with UCLA in their 24-team division. UCLA's opponents had half a win more than UGA's (17.5 to 17), breaking the tie between the two teams and sending UCLA to the finals. NYU was the champion of the other division, followed by the University of Chicago.

UGA won rounds against Tufts, Georgetown, and UC Santa Cruz. Their only loss was to Harvard, by -2, -4. UGA ended the weekend with the largest single ballot win (+28), the largest single round win (+35), and the largest margin of victory over all four rounds (+74) of any team in the 48-team tournament.
