On Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24, 2010 the University of Georgia Undergraduate Mock Trial Program will host the Second Annual Classic City Mock Trial Invitational Tournament in Athens. The competition will include a field of 26 teams of college students from some of the finest undergraduate Mock Trial programs in the southeast and nation.

If you are a practicing attorney or judge who lives within a day's driving distance of Athens, we would greatly appreciate your help in serving as a scoring and/or presiding judge for our tournament.

Mock Trial is a competitive academic exercise in which students simulate civil and criminal trials using a fictional case. Through this fun and challenging exercise in which team members play the roles of attorneys and witnesses, the undergraduate participants improve their trial advocacy skills and knowledge of the law, as well as gain invaluable experience in public speaking, acting, and critical thinking.

Quality judging is an essential aspect of any Mock Trial competition. We hope to recruit between 50 and 100 practicing attorneys and judges as volunteers. Law students may apply to serve as judges, as well.

The knowledge and experience that scoring and presiding judges bring to Mock Trial is an invaluable part of the educational experience for the student participants as they work to improve their advocacy skills in the courtroom.

Attorney volunteers may judge any, or all, of the four trials taking place on Saturday and Sunday. Please fill out a registration form indicating which time slots work for you. Each time slot listed below includes a round lasting approximately two and a half to three hours, as well as a brief judges' meeting before the round.

Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided to all volunteers serving as judges.

The tournament will take place at the the University of Georgia School of Law, within walking distance of beautiful downtown Athens.
